BRAZIL 2014: Netherlands Trash Spain 1-5.
In a game that ended like a revenge mission from the 2010 World cup final, defending Champions Spain suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of Netherlands; losing 1-5 in their first 2014 World cup game.
Spain opened the score sheet when Diego Costa was brought down inside the box and Xabi Alonso converted the spot kick.
In the 44th minute , before the close of the first, Robin Van Persie nodded a cross over the head of an obviously out of position Ikr Casillas into the net.
In the second half, Arjen Robin gave the Dutch side a second goal in the 53 minutes.
In the 64th minute it was Stefan de Vrij turn to enter the score sheet for Netherlands.
Robin Van Persie got on the score sheet again in the 72 minutes when he capitalised on Casillas clearance error to poke the ball into the net.
In the 80th minute, Netherlands made a successful counter attack in which Arjen Robin got his brace for the day.
Spain defeated Netherlands in the 2010 World cup to lift the trophy.
