INCREDIBLE ! British couple spends one pound for their wedding.

While it takes almost a fortune for traditional weddings and another fortune for white weddings in cultures like Nigeria, it took only but one pound for British Georgina, 36, and Sid, 39 to be officially married before over 70 guests who witnessed their nuptial vows.

According to a UK news wabsite, the couple met in Glasgow in 2009 and agreed to marry each other.Another agreement reached by the couple was that their wedding was going to be on a very low budget.

"I dont see the point in these massive weddings. I takes away from what marriage is truely about." said Georgina.

The one pound was spent on a second hand vintage wedding gown for Georgina. The couple were reported to have done most of the decorations and wedding rings themselves. They also asked family and friends to come along with food and drinks.

The wedding took place last night in a barn behind the couple's cottage, which was decorated with solar lanterns, locally grown flowers donated by farmers. Georgina's wedding dress was acquired from a website that freecycles stuffs. It is an online community where people can swap items, and it cost her a pound- their only expenditure of the occassion.

The chuch service was conducted by Georgina's mother Susanne. The rings were made by Georgina herself from materials she picked from their garden. They were officially pronounced married by Reverend Peter Donald, who offered his services free so that he could take donations for the church from the guests.  A local photographer was also on hand to take photographs free after agreement that Georgina, a freelance film editor work for him in return. Georgina's aunt home-baked a three tier chocolate cake.

The only additional payment made to the wedding was the70 pounds statutory fee paid for marriages. The wedding also featured an after party that lasted into the night with plenty of food and drinks. Music and jazz was played by the bride's father who played on the saxophone.

Georgina went on later: "There is nothing to gain from spending a huge amount of money. The day is supposed to be about marrying the person you love and for us, all that mattered was that we were becoming husband and wife. We didnt want or need a big, fancy affair"

In the UK an average wedding now cost 20,000 pounds.
