To Nigerians, the stadium was not only important for its beauty, it is equally important because our national teams especially the Green Eagles and subsequently Super eagles never lose  a match here.

British Soldier Killer Adebolajo, Appeals Against Conviction.

British soldier killer, Michael Adebolajo has lodged an application to appeal against his conviction for the killing of a British soldier Fusilier Rigby.

Rigby was killed on the 22 May 2013 in Woolwich, South East London by Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, from Greenwich, South East, London.  Adebolajo who claimed to be a  'soldier of Allah' in the killing of Rigby, also said it was an  'act of war'.

He and Adebowale are awaiting conviction by Mr Justice Sweeney who said he would pass judgment on the two men after a key appeal court ruling on the use of whole-life term, with the decision due on later date.

CHAN: Ghana Edges Out Nigeria 4-1 On Penalties

The Black Stars of Ghana this evening edged out the Nigeria Super Eagles in the second semi finals game in the ongoing CAF African championship in South Africa.

The first half of the game ended with non of the teams scoring. The Ghanians played the game with every thing they had, conceding two yellow cards in the half.

The second half also ended in a goaless with Nigeria mounting all the pressures that the Ghanians Soaked. This half saw Ghana reduced to nine men. At this point Nigeria was expected to capitalise on the advantage but the second half also ended without a goal.

In the extra time, Nigeria made several attempts to score but could not find the back of the net in the two halves of the extra time. The game was to be decided on penalties after over 120 minutes.

In the penalties,  Ghana and Nigeria scored their first kicks each but Ghana scored their next three kicks, and Nigeria missed the next two by Solomon Kwanbe and Ugonna Uzochukwu respectively. The scoreline  ended 4-1 in favour of the Ghanians.

Ghana plays Libya in the finals on Sunday.

Juan Mata Joins Manchester United At Club's Record Fee.

Spanish and former Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has finally joined Manchester United. The two times Chelsea player of the year completed his medicals at Manchester United on Saturday.

Mata Joins United at what appears to be the club's record transfer fee at £ 37.1m against Robin Van Persin's £30m when he moved from Arsenal.

"United is the perfect place for me and I am excited to have the chance to be part of the next phase of the club's history." Mata said

"One of the greatest playmakers in the game," said David Moyes.

"It is a real pleasure to have secured his signature."

Mata who has not been in Mourinho's book of favour since the Portuguese took over the Chelsea mantle in the beginning of this season, is expected to be in United colours on Tuesday when they play Cardiff City.

CHAN: Nigeria Beat Morocco 3-4 To Qualify For Semis.

Nigeria Super Eagles this evening came back from a 3-0 down to defeat their Morocco counterparts 3-4 in a quarter finals encounter in Cape Town, South Africa in the ongoing CAF African championship.

The Moroccoans opened scoring with Mohsine Moutaouali's 33 minutes goal. Later in 37 minutes, Iajour Mouhssine added the second goal. Before the end of the first half,  Moutaouali added the third and a brace for himself in the 40 minutes mark.

In the second half,  Nigeria took over the game and scored three goals through Ugonna Uzochukwu in the 49th minutes,  Rabiu Ali, 55 minutes and Ejike Uzoenyi 90 minutes.

The game went into extra time where Nigeria got the winning goal at the 111 minutes by Ibrahim Aliu

Nigeria qualified for the semi final with the win against Morocco.

Chelsea Agrees To Sell Essien To AC Milan.

Chelsea has agreed to sell Ghanian midfielder Michael Essien to Italian Seria A giant AC Milan. Though the transfer fee has not been revealed, the midfielder has travelled to Milan to hold talks with the club and new manager Clarence Seedorf who was named manager after the sack of Massimiliano Allegri. The player is also to go through Milan medicals.

"I'm happy to be here. I will do my best for Milan and I hope to be ready to play," Essien said.

Native Doctor Arraigned For Raping A Man In Benue state.

A native doctor in Benue state of Nigeria, Tarvih Nyitse,30, has been arraigned before a Markurdi magistrate court on allegation of sodomy and homosexuality.

Nyitse was said to have lured his victim Terzungwe Yev, to a secluded area and raped him.

According to Vanguard reports, Yev reported the matter to the police. According to Yev, Nyitse heard him complaining to his ( Yev ) neighbour that his mother was sick. Nyitse then claimed he could cure her. It was when he (Nyitse) took Yev to the bush to pick herbs that he committed the crime.

Police prosecutor, James Zungwe told the court that Yev reported the incident at 'D' Division Police station on 16th January.

"He reported that he was surprised when the accused pounced on him there in the bush and forcefully had sexual inter course with him through the anus." Zungwe told the court.

In Nigeria, homosexuality is an offence punishable under section 284 of the penal code.

David Moyes To Be Sacked As Manchester United Manager.

Classified information coming from Manchester United is that manager David Moyes could be sacked by Manchester United if he does not resign in the next 48 hours according to Nigeria's leading Sports radio station  88.9 Brila Fm.

This development was made necessary by Manchester United's 3-1 loss at Stamford Bridge. United have lost 7 of their 22 games this season. These loses affected the club's commercials including endorsements and league table position. The club began a downward spiral after Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson this season.

Eto'o Scores Hat trick In Chelsea 3-1 Win Over Man United.

Samuel Eto'o's hat trick was all Chelsea needed to secure a deserved victory over Manchester United at the Stanford bridge Sunday evening.

The first goal came in the 17th minutes as Eto'o changed direction, cutting in from the right and curled a left foot shot over United's keeper David de Gea, courtesy of a deflection off Michael Carrick's foot.

On the stroke of half time,  the United defending was weak again from a half cleared corner. Ramires rolled the ball back into the penalty area and Eto'o was completely alone to turn in Cahill's low centre.

Four minutes into the second half, Eto'o picked a loose ball from a rebound after Cahill's attempt hit the bar and drifted past Antonio Valencia to find the back of the net.

In the 78 minutes, Javier Hernandez applied a finishing touch to a Jones shot to net United's only goal of the match.

Vatican Nun Delivers Baby Boy, Claims She Was Unaware She Was Pregnant.

A Vatican nun from Salvador delivered a baby boy on Wednesday January 15, 2014 after she felt stomach cramps in a convent.

According to ANSA news report,  the 31 year old nun says she had no idea she was pregnant until she was taken to Reiti hospital central Italy.

"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt stomach pain." She was quoted at the hospital, the Italian news agency reported.

The baby has been reportedly named after Pope Francis.

Lagos State Begins Massive Dismantling Of Defective Telecom Masts.

The lagos state state government through it's representing agency, Urban Furniture Regulatory Agency ( UFRU ), today, began a massive clamp down and dismanteling of defective telecomunication masts owned by banks, lnsurance companies and internet service providers ( ISP ) in the state.

The masts removed by the agency were full of rust especially at the joints and faded paints. Signs of lack of maintenance were obvious. The agency started it's dismanteling operation with three banks, First Bank Agidingbi, UBA Acme Road and Union Bank  Ogba.

Addressing journalists on the development, the General Manager of the agency,  Engr Joe Igbokwe said that the agency has written to the affected organisations but they ignored these letters and failed to carry out maintenance on these infrastructures.

" We have been on this for the past two years and they think we are only playing with words. Now we have started with these three banks,  First Bank Agidingbi, UBA Acme Road and Union Bank Ogba," he said

"There are over 5000 defective masts in Lagos. We have started now and will continue until June by which time we would have removed most of the defective masts." 

When asked if the agency has the financial muscle to finance the dismanteling of 5000 masts since each mast costs 250,000 to pull down,  the UFRU boss answered in the affirmative. 

"Yes we have the capacity to do it and we will do it."

Between 2009 and 2013 over 20 cases of Masts and base station collapse were reported, especially those of Oceanic bank in Adeola Odeku Victoria Island and DBN television station Lekki both of which claimed at least one life each.

CHAN 2014: Nigeria Trash Mozambique 4-2.

The Nigerian Super Eagles team B this evening at the on going CHAN African championship in South Africa,  trashed the Mozambique home based national team 4-2 in their second group A game.

Nigeria lost their first game 1-2 to Mali.

Nigeria conceded early in the 15th minutes of the first half when goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim could not stop a Mozambique free kick taken from the 45 yards. A minute later, Ifeanyi Edeh equalised for Nigeria.  Nigeria went ahead to take the lead by an effort from Rabiu Ali which  Mozambique later equalised minutes before the break.

In the second half,  Nigeria took over the game with Rabiu Ali converting a spot kick to get a brace and Gbolahan Salamis substitute Banabas Imenga scoring the fourth and final goal of the game.

Nigeria plays South Africa in a must win encounter. South Africa had earlier played a one all draw with Mali bringing their points to 4 while today's win sees Nigeria sitting in the third position with 3 points.

I Will Stay At Chelsea Until I Am Sacked---Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made a strong statement regarding his belief in the club. He said he would continue to serve as the team manager until they( the club) decides it is time for him to move on as a manager. Mourinho's first spell as the blues manager was a success until he was asked to leave by owner Roman Ibramovic.

At other clubs, mourinho always expressed his desire to return to the bridge. The opportunity came with the 2013 EPL season. While away from England,  Mourinho kept his home and returned in the 2013 season. He plans to set up a permanent residence in London.

Uche Jombo Denies Nose Surgery Rumours.

Nollywood actress Uche Jombo has denied rumours that she had a nose surgery to fix her nose.

The star actress told punch: " I have never gone under the knife. I heard people say I have done plastic surgery on my nose.

" I cannot imagine a desire to fix my nose of things I could not do to my body. It sounds very ridiculous. "

There has been widespread rumours that the actresses now married to Puerto Ricoan, Kenny Rodriguez, had a plastic surgery to fix her nose last year.

Portugal and Real Madrid striker, Christiano Ronaldo was this night in a gala organised by World football governing body FIFA, named winner of the 2013 ballon d'or. CR7 as he is fondly called beat three times winner Lionel Messi of Barcelona and French Beyern Munich attacker Frank Libery to the title.

Marvin Records Rapper D'Prince may likely sue the blogger behind Nigeriafilm. This development was informed by D'Prince's recent tweets refuting the blogger's post that claimed that the rapper was in deep romance with Inorie Fotso, the daughter of a Cameroonian Billionaire Victor Fotso.

What seemed to have infuriated D'Prince was not the rumour that he is dating the actress/singer but the gossip that his latest Benz 2013 coupe that cost 13 million Naira and was over publicised last year, was bought by Inorie.

"My attention has been drawn to the RUMOR by @Nigeriafilms that am dating a Cameroonian Billionaire's daughter( Inorie Fotso)," D'Prince tweeted.

Nigerian dance queen Kafilat a.k.a Kaffy and husband Joseph Ameh welcomed their second child; a baby girl on Saturday( yesterday). The news was let out by Joseph on his instagram page where he posted images of the new child who they have already named Eliana. The first is a 2 year old son named sean.

Nigerian Accident Victim Arrested After Packs Of Cannabis Rolled Out Of His Scooter.

A Nigerian man who has not been identified  was handed over to the police by residents of Panaji,Goa, India after packets of cannabis rolled out of his scooter when he got involved in an accident.

According to Nigerian eye reports,  the Nigerian who was arrested by officials from Mapusa police station,  15 km from panaji got involved in a crash and packs of cannabis rolled out of the glove-box of his scooter. He hurriedly hid them in the nearby bushes but the residents called in the police.

The police took him to a medical facility because of the injuries he suffered in the accident.

"The Nigerian fell from his scooter after meeting with an accident. He was injured, but immediately tried to hide the drug packs which has fallen from his bike in the bushes by the road, " Bharantiya Janata party MLA Calangute Michael Lobo said.

"The police who arrived here after being informed have taken him away in a van....." Lobo said

Lobo accused the police of being hand -in - glove with the drug mafia, claiming that police were scared to act against the Nigerians, several of whom, he said continued to be living in Goa illegally, despite crackdown last year.

The Nigerian Super Eagles will play Mexico in a friendly encounter in march.  The game which will form part of both teams' build up to the World Cup in Brazil will be played in the United States of America. The game is organised by  soccer united marketing. Nigeria plays in group F with Argentina, Iran, and Bosnia - Herzegovina.  Mexico plays in group A with host Brazil, Cameroon and Croatia.

Head coach of the Nigeria Super Eagles Stephen Okechukwu Keshi and FIFA U -17 champion Kelechi Iheanacho last night won in their various nominations in the 2013 Glo/CAF awards.

The Coach of the year award was won by the Nigerian national team head coach Stephen Keshi for leading Nigeria to 2013 African Cup Of Nations victory in South Africa and qualifying for the World cup in Brazil.

Yaya Toure Wins Glo/CAF African Player Of The Year 2013.

Ivorian and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was this evening in Lagos named the Glo /CAF African football player of the year 2013.  The Player's  fantastic performance in his club games saw him scale through compatriot Didier Drogba of Garatasary and Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi to clinch the award for the third time.

The player has won the award in 2011, 2012 and now 2013.

Comedian Basketmouth Under Fans Attack For Rape Joke

Popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth has worked himself into verbal onslaughts from his numerous fans after he posted a rape joke on his Facebook page which was not so funny to his fans.

In the joke, Basketmouth compared a date with a white girl and a date with an African girl. According to him, it takes only three dates to take a white lady to bed while it takes nine expensive dates for an African woman to be raped. His fans did not find the joke funny as they claimed his joke encouraged violence against women.

INCREDIBLE: Human Body Parts Fall From Saudi Arabia Sky

A bizarre report from the Saudi Arabian city of Jebbah on Sunday says that human body parts were seen falling from the sky.

Though no one was able to pinpoint what actually happened or give a clear explanation of the mystery, the police say it could be the remains of a person trapped in an airplane's wheel bay.

Nawaf bin Naser al-Bouq,  a city spokesman,  said  "Police received a telephone call at 2.30 am from a witness reporting the fall of human remains at an intersection in Mushraf neighbourhood. "

The daily Star reports:

Initial indications were that the remains "fell from a plane's landing gear." Said Bouq adding that investigation is ongoing.

Singer Emmanuel Okose popularly known as Soul E secretly married his heartthrob Petula Delinda on the 2nd January  2014. This is his second marriage  several years since his single track ' SOUL E BABA ' shot him to limelight. His much publicised marriage with Queen Ure lasted a few years before it crashed. A marriage in which he was criticised for engaging a much older woman.
